Big news for families! The Special Needs Opportunity Education Savings Account (ESA) program, launched on July 1, 2024, has already supported 19 families during the 2024-2025 school year. If you missed the first round of applications, don’t worry—the second application period is just around the corner! From November 1 to December 1, families can apply for funding to help cover educational costs for the spring semester. Parents can expect around $5,500 for K-8 students and $8,000 for high school, depending on the local school districts they reside in, to use toward tuition or curriculum costs, therapies, and more. Check your local district amount on the ESA Student table provided by OPI.
This ESA program is designed specifically for children with disabilities as defined by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). If your child has an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or has been diagnosed with one of the disabilities recognized under IDEA, they may be eligible to receive funding to access tailored educational opportunities.
